We’ve cleared the pumpkins away, the fairy lights are up and it’s dark at 6pm. It’s November everyone! Today I’m sharing my favourite October travel snaps and some marketing advice that I have seen work for my own business and my clients.
Cotswolds Content is 1 year old
I started the business in October 2022 and I cannot believe how quickly this first year has gone by. I’ve helped small businesses rebrand, completely turned around social media accounts, managed and resolved website projects, completed some amazing photoshoots and provided marketing advice that I have seen come to fruition throughout. So far, this venture has been better than I imagined (I was terrified to make the jump initially) and there’s so much more I’d like to do… Finding enough time in the day is my biggest conundrum.
What I have learned
As you can imagine, I’ve learned a lot of things this past year from following other freelancers in similar roles and through my own experiences. I try to be sparing with the free advice I provide on my social media and on this blog for the reason that I know it has value and that’s what I offer marketing advice sessions for but here’s a titbit that will certainly help your business succeed online: Don’t make your content overtly personal (you’ll attract the wrong kind of audience that way) and do focus on aesthetics.
It’s a very tricky balance because if you make content that’s too corporate and don’t inject enough personality then people are unlikely to warm to your brand. People love people – watching human experiences and day in the life style content usually goes down a treat but it can’t be your only content style and it does need to be filtered carefully. You’ve got to constantly remind yourself that your interests are not universal and even personal behind the scenes style content must be in keeping with your brand.
Add this to your content plan
What’s an easy win content wise for your website and social media? Locational photography. Editing your photos professionally to match your brand aesthetic will draw people in, help you find new clients and give people a reason to visit your profiles and read what you have to say. It tells people a bit about you and your business and shows them if your brand matches their interests without giving away too much. Don’t get me wrong, consumers/clientele love to know about business owners (this builds trust) and you should create a brand in which people feel they know and understand you but this definitely shouldn’t mean publishing every aspect of your life. Your content should be considered and goal driven.
At Cotswolds Content I offer social media management, blog writing and email marketing services. I also offer 1 hour advice sessions where I review businesses and provide a tailored digital marketing plan of action. You can reach out to me here for a quote.
Cotswolds Content October Travel Favourites
Want to get to know me? Here are some of my top travel photos from the month gone by…

For All Time by Steven Follen
‘For All Time’ is really quite breath-taking. It’s a 3D face comprising of two thousand hand-made steel stars. You can find this must-see exhibition inside the Swan Wing at The RSC in Stratford. Even if you don’t have tickets to see a play (which you really should if you can as the theatres are beautiful), The RSC is well worth a visit. It’s easy to spend all your time there to be honest. There’s a museum with activities that is just perfect for children, a tower where you can have a birds eye view overlooking this beautiful town and a café where you can sit alongside the river and watch the swans and boats pass by.
A city I love – Oxford
Even when you accidentally visit during the Oxford Half Marathon where travel in and out is a complete nightmare, Oxford is still the best place to be. There’s nothing more perfect than a cool, sunny day walking around this romantic City. Even though there is an abundance of things to do here, you don’t need to do anything. Take a walk and you’ll never be far from dreamy architecture or a familiar film scene location.

Long walks in the countryside
I’ve been making an effort to venture outside of Cheltenham when it comes to countryside walks, which I think are incredibly important for the soul! This is where I get a lot of my Cotswolds Content creative thinking done and I couldn’t be without it.
When posting locational photography, this doesn’t always have to be area specific. Think of a location that people will search for, The Cotswolds for instance. Sometimes, posting the exact location can offer very little benefit because unless someone knows about it, they’re not going to search for it. This is where you’ve got to think like the clients you want to attract, Londoners visiting the Cotswolds could be an example of this. They will likely search ‘The Cotswolds’ so make your business shows up in search engine results!
